He frowned at this. “Unlikely? Impossible? What are you talking about? But I was sure Charles was about to make an offer. I know he was planning to.”

This news shocked her; it was easy to see. Her already pale face grew whiter still, and her mouth dropped open. To his surprise, she took to pacing back and forth while shaking her head.
